Advantages of wedge-clamp scaffolding compared to frame scaffolding

Wedge-and-clamp scaffolding is distinguished by its versatility and high strength. Compared to frame and other types of scaffolding, it offers several advantages:

Design Versatility

The wedge connection allows the scaffold to be installed under virtually any façade and building configuration—even those with numerous overhangs, niches, arches, and columns. Frame scaffolding has a fixed geometry: the frame pitch and height are rigidly connected, so it cannot be "adjusted" to fit a complex structure.

Strength and Stability

The wedge lock ensures a very secure connection: under load, the wedge locks, strengthening the connection. This type of scaffolding can withstand heavy deck loads (often up to 500 kg/m²). Ledge and frame scaffolding are typically designed for moderate loads (200–250 kg/m²).

Quick and Easy Installation

The wedges are hammered in and the clamps are tightened—assembly is quick and requires no complex tools. In terms of assembly speed, wedge-and-clamp scaffolding is roughly comparable to frame scaffolding. Unlike transom scaffolds, they have fewer small components (bolts, studs), which speeds up the process.

Flexible Height and Spacing Adjustment

The height of a tier can be adjusted in small increments (usually 0.5 m). Frame scaffolds have a fixed spacing (often 2 m), which isn't always convenient. This allows workers to position themselves at the optimal height for specific tasks.

Compatibility and Modularity

Wedge scaffold elements are easily combined, allowing for customization of the structure's height or width. Scaffolds can be extended to heights of 40–60 m.

Stability on Uneven Surfaces

Thanks to the wedge system and adjustable supports, the scaffold can be leveled even on sloping or uneven surfaces. Frame scaffolds are more difficult to erect on poor foundations; level surfaces are required.

Durability

Wedge locks withstand repeated assembly and disassembly. Compared to frame scaffolding, wedge-clamp scaffolding offers greater design flexibility and a more convenient height adjustment increment of 0.5 m.

Wedge-clamp scaffolding combines strength and versatility with relatively fast installation. While more expensive than frame scaffolding, it proves effective on complex facades, tall structures, and under heavy loads.

On our website, you can purchase wedge-clamp scaffolding directly from the manufacturer, as we have been manufacturing scaffolding in accordance with DSTU standards for many years.
